KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that REDtone, Malaysia’s leading alternative communications, multimedia innovator and service provider, has launched East Malaysia’s first WiMAX broadband services, powered by Motorola technology. The first phase of the WiMAX network covers Kota Kinabalu business district, enabling high speed Internet access as well as data applications for enterprises.

In an effort to expand its broadband services offerings in East Malaysia, REDtone decided to establish a new network using WiMAX technology which ensures quick deployment at a lower cost compared to fixed line solutions. Motorola is working with REDtone to supply and deploy WiMAX 2.3GHz equipment at base sites and install customer premises equipment (CPE) to provide broadband services in major business districts in the first phase of the plan.

“The next generation wireless broadband network expands our service offerings. We are now able to meet our customers’ growing demand for high speed Internet connection and advanced data applications,” said Zainal Amanshah, group chief executive officer of REDtone International Berhad.

“We selected Motorola for this WiMAX project after a thorough evaluation and several field trials. Motorola has extensive WiMAX experience, its system is easy to set up and requires minimum installation footprint, which in the process helps reduce deployment time and lowers overall operational cost,” Zainal added. “We are also impressed by Motorola’s ability to provide advanced features like MIMO-B in a live system. These features will ensure a smooth network upgrade when we need to increase system capacity in the future.”

“We are pleased to work with REDtone in the supply and deployment of a high performance, reliable and scalable WiMAX network for enhanced Internet services and advanced applications. The commercial launch of REDtone’s WiMAX services reinforces our leadership in providing state-of-the-art WiMAX solutions to operators worldwide, enabling fixed and mobile WiMAX experience,” said Eric Starnes, vice president, sales of Asia, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “With our expertise in media mobility, Motorola is confident of assisting REDtone in their long term planning of wireless broadband services.”

Besides providing broadband services to enterprise customers, REDtone is also planning to work with service providers based in Sabah and Sarawak to provide broadband services to the general public. The lack of capacity is causing slow Internet connection during peak period. The new WiMAX network will bring additional bandwidth to the areas and improve overall user experiences, generating more business opportunities for REDtone and local service providers.

Motorola now has 21 contracts for commercial WiMAX networks in 17 countries around the world. For more information about Motorola wi4 WiMAX solutions, please visit: http://www.motorola.com/wimax.

Motorola Wins US$431 Million GSM Contracts With China Mobile.
China Mobile deploys the latest Motorola GSM solutions to increase network coverage, enhance capacity and user experience

BEIJING, Aug 06, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today it has signed multiple contracts worth US $431m with China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) for its GSM network upgrades and expansion. The contracts were signed in the first half of 2008 and reflect Motorola’s position as a global leader in GSM network solutions. Approximately 50% of the revenue from these contracts was recognized in the first half of 2008.

Following the US $394m contracts over the same period of last year, these multiple contracts mark another milestone of the cooperation between China Mobile and Motorola. The cooperation will enable China Mobile to expand its network coverage and manage its GSM network even more effectively; allowing the company to maximize its investment returns and to provide subscribers with enhanced services.

Under these agreements, Motorola will supply CMCC with GSM network equipment and a range of services. The expanded and optimized GSM networks will then be deployed across 16 provinces and municipalities within the coverage area of CMCC, namely Beijing, Tianjin, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Henan, Hunan, Guangdong, Yunnan, Fujian, Hubei, Shanxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Jiangxi, Anhui and Guizhou. These contracts also enable China Mobile to deliver enhanced and value-added multimedia functionality and services.

Motorola has won a number of significant GSM network expansion contracts over the past few years. Motorola’s GSM is attractive for service providers in both new and mature markets. Some of the recent major contract wins include expansion contracts with VNPT Group in Viet Nam, Mobily in Saudi Arabia, and Celtel Nigeria in Nigeria. Besides, Motorola won a turnkey contract in March to deploy and manage GSM network for Zain in Saudi Arabia.

Ruey-Bin Kao, President of Motorola China, said: “Motorola has worked with China Mobile for over 20 years. As a long-term strategic partner of China Mobile, we continue to provide China Mobile with a state-of-the-art GSM network that extends its network coverage, maximizes investment and delivers the most attractive communication experience to its customers.”

As the Chinese telecom industry is going through industry-wide restructuring, China’s telecom operators are undergoing one of the most critical changes in history. “No matter in what direction China Mobile moves forward after the restructuring, Motorola is well-placed to provide the best migration path for both the wireless network and the core network of China Mobile,” Ruey-Bin Kao continued: “Motorola would be proud to be a part of the industry growth story. As China Mobile strives to build the best-in-class future network, Motorola will make every effort to maintain and develop the long-term strategic relationship with China Mobile, doing everything we can to make our own contribution to the growth and expansion of China Mobile.”

China Mobile has been playing a leading role in the development of the mobile communications industry in China and holds an important position in the international arena as well. China Mobile has the largest mobile network and subscriber base around the world. As of 31st May 2008, China Mobile has more than 400 million wireless subscribers on its nationwide network.

Keeping communities safer and improving response time with new public safety and public service applications, Motorola’s PremierOne portfolio transforms the way government responds to the community

APCO 2008 – KANSAS CITY (Booth 1414) – 4 August, 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced its new public sector applications portfolio – PremierOne – the next evolution in public safety and service solutions, which transforms the way agencies operate, collaborate and share information. As a long-standing partner to the public sector, Motorola designed PremierOne to help agencies respond to citizens through operationally intuitive applications with a common platform to access centralized information and tools. Motorola is showcasing its next generation PremierOne computer aided dispatch (CAD), Mobile Data, and 3-1-1 customer service request (CSR) applications at the 74th International APCO conference.

Until now, most government public safety and service agencies have used separate applications on different platforms and formats, leading to high administrative costs, disparate information sources and duplication of information. Motorola’s next generation PremierOne portfolio is comprised of two suites of applications each using a shared services approach to centralize application management and consolidate information sharing. Ultimately, PremierOne provides agencies with a streamlined, cost-effective approach to managing government-wide operations.

Additionally, PremierOne’s location-centric design identifies appropriate resources to promote rapid assignment of personnel and tasks and automate collaboration between agencies. With PremierOne’s common platform approach and feature rich applications, agencies have the tools they need to improve citizen response, optimize services and effectively mobilize response teams within their communities.

“Motorola understands the changing, dynamic environment of public safety and public service and continues to invest in robust, intuitive applications through new architecture and emerging technologies,” said Girish Rishi, vice president and general manager Motorola Applications and Data Solutions. “We’re proud to announce PremierOne as the latest solution in an already industry leading government portfolio, which enables our customers to deliver best in class service”

PremierOne gives agencies a more flexible, scalable and robust common technology platform enabling information sharing and integration across the government enterprise to improve responses in both day-to-day and emergency situations. Access to PremierOne solutions, both in the office and in the field, ensures information is always available for mission-critical tasks. PremierOne applications include an updated intuitive user interface to create seamless interactions and rapid situational response. The application portfolio also includes workforce automation to streamline government operations for more cost-effective citizen response, resource allocation and incident management.

With nearly 80 years of experience in the government and public safety market, Motorola has a keen understanding of the unique needs of agencies. Motorola is committed to ensuring that communicating with technology becomes second nature to government and public safety officials. With the help of user-centric design, Motorola has updated the CAD, Mobile Data and CSR applications to optimize response efficiency. The PremierOne application portfolio is another way that Motorola provides mission critical Solutions to government and enables a real-time view for the communities it serves.

World’s first Project 25 multi-band portfolio to provide seamless interoperability, backwards and forwards compatibility to deliver enhanced solutions to mission critical users

APCO 2008 – KANSAS CITY (Booth 1414) – 4 August, 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the industry’s first Project 25 (P25) multi-band subscriber family, APXTM portable and mobile radios– enabling instant multi-agency interoperability for mission critical first responders. Motorola’s 4th generation P25 subscriber is multi-band (700/800 MHz and VHF), communicates with current and future networks (FDMA and TDMA) and has integrated GPS.

Designed specifically for first responders by applying the science of High Velocity Human Factors (HVHF), the dual-sided portable radio has both an audio and data side providing optimal functionality and loud and clear audio in a compact rugged form factor, which amplifies public safety officials’ ability to keep their communities safer than ever before.

Part of Motorola’s MOTOA4TM portfolio, APX is the first multi-band radio to meet and exceed public safety specifications for mission critical communications and is 15 percent smaller and 50 percent louder than existing Motorola P25 radios. A custom-designed microphone on both the audio and data sides independently suppress most background noise, detects male and female voices and uses a digital vocoder to process and enhance the remaining speech after it is filtered from harsh background noise.

“Multi-agency communication is essential for mission critical operations. APX offers true interoperability and delivers advanced technologies and superior audio quality in one device allowing organizations to streamline the expense of installing, maintaining and operating multiple radios,” said Bob Schassler, corporate vice president of Motorola’s Radio Products and Solutions Group, Government and Commercial Markets – Americas. “APX radios are both backwards and forward compatible working in FDMA and TDMA, which is a testament to Motorola’s commitment to P25 Phase 2. “

Interoperability on Demand
To protect the communities they serve, public safety officials’ success relies on their ability to communicate across federal, state and local boundaries. Instead of requiring two radios to communicate in different agencies’ respective frequencies, APX’s multi-band capability allows first responders the freedom to seamlessly connect between multiple frequencies for better communications with agencies, improved mobility, officer safety and response time. APX will enable first responders to be better prepared for emergencies as it’s designed to be second nature to them.

Mission Critical Form Factor
Designed with input from public safety officials, social sciences, and on-site testing under severe physical conditions, the APX radio is rich with applications including integrated GPS, text messaging, intelligent lighting and user controlled radio profiles. The APX portable’s slip-free T-Grip form factor with raised slanted knobs and buttons is made especially for gloved hands.

“Public safety agencies have been requesting interoperability and enhanced features from their two-way radios, said Jeff Vining, vice president, Gartner, Inc. “They require mission critical features to take them into the future.”

Future Ready Investment
APX two-way radios are backward and forward compatible working on both Motorola’s FDMA and TDMA radio systems, which is a testament to Motorola’s commitment to P25 Phase 2 and interoperability for first responders. When available, TDMA systems will double the voice capacity. APX radios will also support future applications including Bluetooth® as they become available.

Motorola will have a live demonstration of APX at APCO 2008, August 4–7 at the Kansas City Convention Center, Booth 1414. For more information please visit Motorola.com/APX.

Motorola Introduces WLAN Mesh-Enabled Access Point for Hazardous Environment Duty.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – 30 July 2008 – The Enterprise Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the latest member of its outdoor access point (AP) product family, the Haz-location (Haz-Loc) certified AP-5181, that is designed to extend the wireless enterprise into the harshest work environments. The increasing adoption of WLAN technology and mobile computing in hazardous areas not only leads to improved business processes, but also can be utilized to provide enhancements that keep workers safe.

Petro-chemical, oil and gas, aerospace, power generation and utilities, mining and manufacturing organizations can deploy AP-5181 APs easily without requiring extra cabling by utilizing mesh. Motorola’s mesh technology enhances the flexibility on AP placement and lowers the cost for providing network access. The addition of these new AP-5181’s in a customer’s control network – the main network used to control plant equipment/machinery – enables more sensors and metering devices to be supported that provide critical information such as temperature, humidity and pressure readouts of plant machinery resulting in significant cost savings through process control and optimization.

The deployment of AP-5181 APs also extends the IT network outdoors in hard-to-wire environments. The benefit is mobile operator applications that were previously completed in the plant office such as filing field inspections, issuing repair work orders and checking maintenance records and parts inventories can now be done out in the field. In addition, safety applications such as Wi-Fi based video surveillance and personnel location (man-down, mustering) can now be easily and cost effectively deployed in all plant areas including hazardous locations.

“Wireless is the preferred networking choice in many of these harsh environments not only because of its mobility and lower cost benefits, but also for the simple fact that some of these settings have restrictions or special conduit requirements for laying Ethernet cables,” said Sujai Hajela, vice president and general manager of Enterprise WLAN, Motorola Enterprise Mobility business. “Motorola is uniquely positioned to offer its customers a complete indoor and outdoor wireless solution that not only meets the needs of the carpeted office but also a business-critical offshore oil/gas platform.”

The Motorola AP-5181 is Haz-Loc certified Class1Div2 (C1D2) and ATEX Zone 2 compliant. C1D2 is required for hazardous operation in North America and ATEX Zone 2 is required within the European Union.

Motorola’s AP-5181 AP has been engineered for flexibility and ease-of-use for wireless enterprise deployments. Its adaptive architecture enables it to operate as a stand-alone AP or as a switch managed access point for centralized management.

The AP-5181 also provides state-of-the art security with support for Wi-Fi protected access (WPA) and WPA2. Additionally, Motorola’s AP-5181 enables its wireless intrusion protection system (WIPS) to monitor, detect, protect and help prevent intrusions to the wireless network.

“Motorola’s hardened AP-5181’s mesh technology offers Invensys Process Systems and our clients the convenience to place wireless access points in the toughest work environments without the need for additional wires,” said Cory Welch, global practice director, Enterprise Architecture and Integration, Invensys Process Systems. “Enterprise wireless LAN solutions from Motorola provide reliable, scalable, high performance connectivity for mobile computing to critical plant assets and real time data, increasing worker productivity, safely and securely.”

Enterprise WLAN is part of Motorola’s portfolio of innovative wireless broadband solutions and services that complement and complete internet protocol (IP) networks. Delivering IP coverage to virtually all spaces both indoors and outdoors, the portfolio includes fixed broadband, mesh, broadband over powerline, WiMAX and Enterprise WLAN solutions for private and public networks.
