PCMag.ComResearch in Motion takes the already excellent BlackBerry Curve 8300 and adds GPS. It's still one of the best smartphones out there despite a lack of fast data options. Beautiful design. Comfortable keyboard and trackball. Best-in-class e-mail handling. Built-in GPS and optional TeleNav app. No 3G or Wi-Fi support. Slow GPS lock-in. Traffic reporting needs work.
reviews.cnet.co.ukWeaknesses The main problem with the 8310 is its lack of connectivity. It doesn't have the Wi-Fi support found on some other BlackBerry models such as the 8820 and like all of RIM's messengers it also lacks 3G. This means you're limited to GPRS speeds when using the browser and as a result surfing the Web is tediously slow. The lack of 3G also has a knock on effect with the Telmap sat-nav service. Telmap works by downloading the maps into the device in one go before you set off, so if you lose the signal, like if you're in a tunnel, it can still provide guidance. However, by working via the 8310's GPRS connection, the maps take a while to download.
yourmobilephonereviews.co.ukThe BlackBerry Curve 8310 is a Quad Band Technology Smartphone which covers GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900 which provides the user with worldwide roaming. The network coverage is full dependent on the network operator & may vary. The user can store their contacts, messages, music, ringing tones, pictures & much more on the phone internal memory which is 64 Mbytes of Flash memory. The Curve 8310 comes with an expandable memory option which allows the user to add a memory card to suit the user memory needs.
www.phonescoop.comI LOVE this device. I had purchased the Palm Centro for AT&T and was not very happy with it at all (see my review on the Centro for my reasons why) so I exchanged it for the BB 8310 and couldn't be happier. There are some drawbacks that prevent me from giving the device a full 5 star rating, but overall I love it and in the few days I've had it it has already helped me get more organized and stay in touch with my contacts.
