Macau, China – Nokia today reaffirmed its commitment to TD-SCDMA at the Mobile Asia Congress in Macau.

Mr. Colin Giles, President of Nokia China, said at the event: “Nokia firmly supports the development of TD-SCDMA. Our goal is to not only develop TD-SCDMA products that can deliver outstanding user experiences to consumers, but also to work with operators, chipset providers, developers and all parties along the value chain to support the creation of a vibrant TD-SCDMA ecosystem in China.”

Nokia has started the development of a TD-SCDMA device based on S60 on Symbian OS, and plans to launch the product before the end of 2009.

Nokia’s S60 TD-SCDMA device will enrich the TD-SCDMA device portfolio for Chinese consumers, and promote the development of TD-SCDMA in China.

Symbian is the world’s leading smartphone platform, with over four million developers globally. By launching the S60-based TD-SCDMA device, Nokia combines Symbian’s massive resources with the market opportunities provided by TD-SCDMA. There are currently over 10 000 third-party S60 on Symbian OS applications commercially available. The current S60 on Symbian OS applications will be compatible with S60-based TD-SCDMA devices, offering enriched experiences to China’s TD-SCDMA users.

“We are very excited to hear Nokia’s announcement today. Symbian OS is a mature and leading global mobile device platform, and we believe that the Nokia TD-SCDMA device will enhance our application offerings and user experiences,” said Mr. Wang Jianzhou, Chairman and CEO of China Mobile. “We look forward to working together with Nokia to further drive TD-SCDMA development in China.”

“The Symbian platform is an engine for open innovation in the mobile ecosystem, and a driver of mobile and Internet convergence,” concluded Mr. Colin Giles” With the development of Symbian-based applications and services, it will not only benefit the TD-SCDMA industry, but also facilitate 3G services in China.”

Satyam to absorb Motorola’s Malaysia Software Development Center Move will increase synergies and competitiveness for both companies

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – November 10, 2008 – Motorola and Satyam, a leading global consulting and information technology services provider, announced today that Satyam has acquired 128 employees of Motorola. This acquisition will create synergies and boost their competitiveness in Malaysia and throughout Asia-Pacific region. Motorola will divest from its software development center (SDC) in Cyberjaya. All 128 employees – along with the unit’s assets – will shift to Satyam.

The SDC is part of Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility business and focuses on network management system development. “This strategic acquisition will integrate and strengthen Satyam’s product engineering services to Network Equipment Providers and Operators in the areas of element management, mobile solutions, and access networks” said Nishith Mathur, head of Satyam’s Technology Infrastructure business unit.

“This is a unique effort that will continue to drive Motorola’s strategy in Malaysia, will strengthen our competitive position, and improve cost structure and operational efficiencies,” said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, Corporate Vice President, Software Operations and WiMAX and LTE Engineering, Home and Networks Mobility.

When the deal is closed it is subject to regulatory and other customary conditions, but should be completed by December 31, 2008. Motorola will contract directly with Satyam for development services of its market-leading network management software.

“This partnership reinforces the promise of the Cyberjaya Multimedia Super Corridor – to attract new and dynamic research and development ecosystems,” said Virender Aggarwal, Head of Satyam’s Rest of the World Region. “In fact, Satyam is developing a 15-acre campus in the Super Corridor, which will create both operational efficiencies for related development projects and career opportunities for our new employees and many other people in area.”

Motorola employees who join Satyam will immediately have access to Satyam’s world-class training programs and they will gain exceptional career development opportunities.

“These Motorola professionals are steeped in capabilities that are in high-demand all over the globe,” Aggarwal said. “As such, they represent a very valuable group for our organization. We are always trying to increase our skills in strategic areas, and this agreement helps us in that regard significantly.”

For its part, Motorola is committed to delivering on customers’ expectations without disruption or distraction. “The Software Development Center provides significant efforts for both internal programs important to customer deliverables and for external Motorola’s global customers. Our commitment to those programs remains strong,” Ramakrishna said.

About Motorola in Malaysia
With over 30 years of corporate presence, Motorola Malaysia has established itself as a leading manufacturer of high technology wireless communications solutions and accessories for the global market. Motorola’s investments, operations and commitments in Malaysia are recognized by the Government.

Motorola is a large investor and employer in Malaysia. Penang is a major site for Motorola’s operations, as it is home to Motorola’s largest manufacturing site for two-way radio products in Asia and the only design centre for two-way radios in the region.
As of to-date, Motorola has invested a cumulative amount of over RM3.5billion in Malaysia, to focus on key activities such as human capital and R&D technology developments in producing products such as digital two-way radios, advanced wireless communications products, equipment and accessories.

Inform, Involve, Empower – Nokia’s service mantra for emerging markets with Nokia Life Tools.
Timely and relevant information for smaller towns and rural areas directly to mobile phones

New Delhi, India – In its ongoing effort to bridge the digital divide, Nokia today introduced a range of affordable mobile devices and innovative new services specifically for people in emerging markets. In addition to Nokia’s lowest cost handset to date, as well as its first handset for emerging markets with an integrated digital music player, Nokia unveiled a range of services that leverage the power of the Internet. Estimated retail prices of the new devices range from 25 to 90 EUR, with several models expected to begin shipping in 2008. Nokia’s suite of Internet services for emerging markets will be available beginning in 2009.

“Filling in the information gaps in agriculture and education with Nokia Life Tools, we strive to contribute towards empowering people with the right tools to help them make informed decisions in their daily lives,” said Jawahar Kanjilal, Global Head of Emerging Market Services, Nokia. “Nokia Life Tools was developed to help bridge the digital divide in the emerging markets”

“Nokia is a global innovator with a strong pulse of local markets. Agriculture employs more than 60 percent of all workforce in India. This sector of the economy needs fresh inputs via technology for the sector to get to a 3 percent growth,” said Shiv Shivakumar, Vice President, Nokia India. “Education and English language, on the other hand, are springboards for a number of small town and rural youth to move into the employment market. Nokia, through services in Agriculture and Education, will fulfil these opportunities for the Indian population.”

Nokia plans to conduct a limited scale pilot in India before the end of 2008. Reuters Market Light (RML) is the content service provider collaborating with Nokia for agriculture services in the pilot, where accurate and regular information on weather, prices and availability of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and prevailing market prices for the produce are sent to the farmer. The information is customized to the farmer’s location and selection of crops, and will be delivered directly to his Nokia mobile phone. By getting the latest information directly on their mobile phones, farmers can overcome uncertainty and get just the right information that they need to grow and sell their crops.

“Technology is changing the way farmers, their families and their surrounding communities are contributing to the economy, as well as benefiting from it. Reuters Market Light has already proven the value of customized and localized information to the farming community, with thousands of farmers having already made significant additional profits using RML,” said Amit Mehra, Managing Director, Reuters Market Light. “Through our collaboration with Nokia, we hope to reach even more farmers so that they can make informed decisions that have a direct and positive impact on their productivity and yield.”

The Education service of Nokia Life Tools aims to give students a decisive advantage by boosting their English language and local, national and international general knowledge. Language lessons, quizzes on English words and phrases, and the general knowledge information were designed – together with EnableM for the pilot – to give students an edge. In future, the Education service will also come with information on higher education and career guidance and tips, exam preparation, quizzes and access to exam results.

Astrology services and ringtone downloads, with content from OnMobile during the pilot phase, bring the fun element to Nokia Life Tools.

“Nokia Life Tools was developed in collaboration with the target users and the industry. The success of this initiative can be assured through regular consumer feedback to ensure that their needs are best met. More importantly, it will require a collaborative effort between Nokia, our operator partners, industry participants and information providers across the agriculture and education sectors as we connect the next billion mobile phone subscribers – many of whom will indeed hail from these developing regions,” added Mr Kanjilal.

Nokia Life Tools services use an icon-based, graphically rich user interface that comes complete with tables and which can even display information simultaneously in two languages. Behind this rich interface, SMS is used to deliver the critical information to ensure that this service works wherever a mobile phone works, without the hassles of additional settings or the need for GPRS coverage.

Idea Cellular Limited is the first GSM operator in India to collaborate on Nokia Life Tools. Pradeep Shrivastava, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular Ltd says: “We at Idea, Aditya Birla Group have made significant strides in rural markets and have taken initiatives around rural telephony. We are delighted to collaborate with Nokia in this new service and enrich the life of the Indian rural consumer through these service-enabled handsets.”

“In 2002, Nokia unveiled a strategy to lower the cost of owning and operating a mobile phone and to bring the benefits of mobile telephony to people in emerging markets. Today, we are expanding that vision by introducing a number of devices and services that aim to bring the power of the Internet to these markets as well,” says Robert Andersson, Executive Vice President, Devices, Nokia. “The mobile device and the Internet are a powerful combination in connecting people with each other, accessing information, news, entertainment and sharing. By introducing products and services that are affordable, relevant and easy-to-use, we believe Nokia can fuel the growth of the Internet in emerging markets through mobility.”

The first services Nokia will offer in emerging markets will focus on email, agriculture and education, which based on consumer feedback, present the strongest demand in emerging markets.

Mail on Ovi, which is enabled on Nokia Series 40 devices, offers the possibility to create an email account directly on the mobile phone without having to use a personal computer, giving millions of users the possibility to create their first internet identity and communicate in new ways. Mail on Ovi is easy to find, set-up and use, for immediate email access from your mobile phone. A trial of Mail on Ovi will launch in a few select markets by the end of November 2008. The global rollout of Mail on Ovi will be available on all currently shipping Nokia Series 40 devices by the end of 2008.

Nokia Life Tools is a range of innovative agriculture information and education services designed especially for rural and small town communities in emerging markets. Nokia Life Tools helps overcome information constraints and provides farmers and students with timely and relevant information. These services use an icon-based, graphically rich user interface that comes complete with tables and which can even display information simultaneously in two languages. Behind this rich interface, SMS is used to deliver the critical information to ensure that this service works wherever a mobile phone does, without the hassles of additional settings or the need for GPRS coverage. Nokia plans to launch the service in the first half of 2009 with the Nokia 2323 classic and the Nokia 2330 classic as the lead devices in India, and expand it across select countries in Asia and Africa later in 2009

Seven new mobile devices offer a range features, styles and price points
To support the range of new mobile services for emerging markets, Nokia also expanded its portfolio of affordable mobile phones, including:

The Nokia 7100 Supernova is a stylish addition to the popular Supernova collection. Designed for style and entertainment, the colorful device is highlighted by its large, high resolution color screen, FM radio and a 1.3 megapixel camera and support for Share on Ovi, Nokia’s online photo sharing service, and other photo sharing sites. The Nokia 7100 Supernova also includes support for Mail on Ovi, as well as a browser for surfing information on the Internet. The Nokia 7100 Supernova is expected to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2008 with an estimated retail price of 75 EUR.

With dedicated music keys, a digital music player, FM radio and a standard 3.5 mm connector for headphones, the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic is Nokia’s most affordable music phone to date. Equipped with an integrated 2 megapixel camera, the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic also supports image sharing through Share on Ovi, as well as the Mail on Ovi email service. The Nokia 5130 XpressMusic is expected to begin shipping in the first quarter of 2009 with an estimated retail price of 90 EUR.

Premium looks and practicality are the hallmarks of the Nokia 2320 classic, Nokia 2323 classic and Nokia 2330 classic. These affordable devices support Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools. In addition, the Nokia 2323 classic offers an FM radio with recording and an Internet browser. The Nokia 2330 classic is also equipped with an integrated camera. The Nokia 2320 classic and the Nokia 2323 classic are expected to begin shipping during the second quarter of 2009 with an estimated retail price of 40 EUR. The Nokia 2330 classic is expected to begin shipping during the second quarter of 2009 with an estimated retail price of 50 EUR.

The Nokia 1202 and Nokia 1661 offer exceptional value from a brand that represents quality and trust. At only 25 EUR, the Nokia 1202 is Nokia’s lowest cost mobile device to date.

Milestone marks Motorola’s continued advancement in testing in field trials and development of commercial LTE solutions

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Nov. 3 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced it has completed the industry’s first over-the-air Long-Term Evolution (LTE) data sessions in the 700MHz spectrum using its LTE Radio Access Test Network and LTE eNode-B platform with a prototype LTE device. This testing milestone, achieved in Motorola labs and at an outdoor location in central Illinois, demonstrates the progress Motorola is achieving toward bringing its LTE solutions to market in 2009.

The sessions included mobile video streaming and various high data rate applications. The demonstrations also included execution of applications priority which guarantees throughput using quality of service (QoS) aspects of the LTE standards.

“This field test shows the progress we’ve made in preparing to deliver a commercial LTE solution for testing and early limited deployments in 2009,” said Darren McQueen, vice president, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “We are testing our 700MHz and 2.6GHz products, which are expected for first commercial release next year, in real-world environments to ensure our products will meet the needs of mobile carriers who want to be first to market with LTE.”

The lower frequency bands provide better coverage and in-building penetration, which is a requirement for many mobile operators. In North America, the 700MHz spectrum auctioned earlier this year is part of the worldwide “digital dividend” – spectrum in the 470–862MHz bands that has been freed by the switch from analog to digital TV. The digital dividend is viewed by mobile operators in the U.S., Europe, and much of the rest of the world as a valuable resource as existing and new mobile broadband networks quickly consume current spectrum allocations and operators are pushed towards providing connections to rural areas.

In Europe digital dividend spectrum encompasses the current TV broadcast 790–862MHz bands. It is expected to be auctioned between 2009–2012, coinciding with mobile operators’ plans to deploy LTE.

Motorola’s flexible LTE eNode-B architecture can be tailored to meet each customer’s specific requirements by using frame based-mounted radios and remote radio heads. This design allows many spectrum bands to be supported in the early stage of LTE and accommodates a wide variety of LTE deployment scenarios across newly available spectrum as well as existing GSM, UMTS and CDMA bands. The 700MHz radio head for example, can be modified to operate in 790-862MHz to provide operators a solution to deploy LTE in the “digital dividend” spectrum as soon as it becomes available in the various regions.

LTE promises to deliver an unrivalled user experience with ultra fast broadband and very low latency with lowest cost per bit for data services. With LTE’s ability to deliver a highly compelling user experience and to interconnect with other access technologies, operators will be able to integrate their LTE and fixed line broadband networks. LTE creates the opportunity to deliver subscribers truly seamless broadband communications that accelerates the delivery of personal media experiences and brings exciting new applications like video streaming to enable media mobility.

MOTOZINE ZN5 delivers a picture-perfect camera and mobile experience. ZN5 is the first mobile phone to combine Motorola’s ModeShift technology and KODAK Imaging Technology. Together, they redefine the quality, convenience and connectivity of mobile imaging devices. The dedicated, simple share key allows one-touch sharing with friends and family while on the go through access to: picture messaging, T-Mobile MyAlbum, Kodak Gallery and compatible Bluetooth enabled printers1, 2.

“The arrival of the MOTOZINE ZN5 at T-Mobile provides a new opportunity for customers to instantly capture and share each special moment in their lives,” said Dennis Burke, vice president, Sales, Motorola Mobile Devices. “The MOTOZINE ZN5 simplifies mobile imaging while empowering users with the tools they traditionally rely on in a digital camera.”

“The MOTOZINE ZN5 is a terrific phone for T-Mobile customers who value instant connections with loved ones,” said Travis Warren, Director of Device Marketing at T-Mobile. “Who wants to lug around several tech devices during the holidays when
one – the ZN5 – will suffice, making it easier than ever to snap and share photos with family and friends.”

Built to Shoot
ZN5 puts image capture first with a high-resolution screen and one of the fastest click-to-click times available. To launch the camera, simply slide open the lens cover to transform the phone into an ultra-fast, natural-feeling 5 megapixel imaging device. Unlike most “camera phones” on the market, the ZN5 has the feel of a digital camera with the shutter button, flash and viewer in the standard placement consumers expect. Plus, with auto focus for sharp, vivid pictures, a Xenon flash, an included 1 GB memory card (with 4GB of optional external memory support) to store favorite images, optimized settings for low-light environments and red-eye reduction, there is no longer a need to carry two devices. ZN5 is both a phone and a digital camera.

Built-in KODAK Imaging Technology ensures that every picture taken with ZN5 looks its best. When KODAK Imaging Technology is combined with KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology, images become brighter and more vivid on the spot. Multiple capture modes, like multi-shot and panorama, which automatically stitches together continuous shots taken on the horizon line into a single, extended image, makes taking photos fun.

Built to Share
With one click, photos can be viewed right from the home screen; no menus, no searching. This multimedia device provides a fun, quick and easy way to share favorite photos with friends and family. Using high speed Wi-Fi or GSM networks, full resolution pictures can be wirelessly uploaded in one simple click to the KODAK Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com)¹. Consumers also have additional options for sharing, whether sending over MMS¹, transferring to a computer via USB, showing slideshows on a TV (TV output/AV cable included in box), or using Bluetooth wireless technology2. T-Mobile customers who purchase a ZN5 will receive 50 free prints from Kodak Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com).

Top three winners announced at Nokia Games Summit awards ceremony

Rome, Italy and Espoo, Finland – Nokia revealed that Ghostwire, by A Different Game from Sweden, is the winner of the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge. Ghostwire is a casual collection and adventure game, where players use the unique features of the mobile device to communicate with the world of ghosts. Ghostwire also features an augmented reality-powered mini-game, where players can use the camera on their mobile device to find ghosts. At the Nokia Games Summit awards ceremony, A Different Game was awarded the top prize of 40,000 EUR to further develop their concept.

Sweden’s Jadestone and France’s C4M, came in second place with Melokey to win 20,000 EUR. Eclipse Interactive from the United Kingdom claimed third place and 10,000 EUR with Watchers. As well as the prize money, each of the winners will be given pre-production contracts with Nokia Games Publishing. The winning three titles were chosen by a panel of independent industry experts, selected from a final shortlist of ten concepts from around the globe.

“We are happy to see such exciting mobile game concepts come from each of the three winners of the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge and are looking forward to seeing these innovative ideas come to life,” said Dr Mark Ollila, director of games publishing, Nokia.

“The standard of the concepts submitted to the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge was very high, and it has been fascinating to see the different types of ideas created for mobile. It has been a difficult decision, but we were all impressed by Ghostwire,” said Maarten Noyons, founder and general manager of the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) and head of the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge judging panel.

Noyons added, “This is a refreshing game that is truly ‘made-for-mobile’, using augmented reality in a different way. Your mobile phone helps you to discover and actually see a hidden world of mysteries and ghosts, to communicate with them, to collect them and to, as the makers state, give them peace. All judges agreed that this is a game they’d like to see progress.”

The winner, Tom Söderlund, CEO of A Different Game said, “We believe Ghostwire has the potential to become an exhilarating and innovative game, and we’re happy the jury agrees with us. The entire team is overwhelmed and excited to win this important award.”

Second Prize was awarded to Melokey which was chosen for its potential to bring music and games to mobile with advanced social networking features. Melokey is a music game for mobile devices where players learn to master songs and play them against other in-game characters and competitors to win the hearts of fans. Once they have the hang of how to master the play interface via the immersive single player campaign, players can start playing their own favourite music, not just on their own, but together with friends.

Third Prize, Watchers, is a conspiracy adventure-themed game and is part of the new generation of games which are using location and context as an essential element. The game will use Nokia Maps and other real world tools to find locations. Players must explore these locations to uncover clues and use all their wits and any means necessary, to find out who they are, why they are trapped, and who is behind it all. Watchers is supported with episodic game play and offers players the chance to provide content to challenge other fellow conspiracy theorists.

The Mobile Games Innovation Challenge, launched in April 2008, is designed to encourage the development of innovative game concepts with the power to positively disrupt the global mobile gaming industry and to help propel mobile gaming with handheld devices into a new and exciting future.

The Mobile Games Innovation Challenge, sponsored by Nokia Games Publishing, called for mobile game developers to submit concepts that will help drive mobile gaming to the next level, relying on the advanced features and functionalities of N-Gage-compatible devices, and Java- or Symbian-based Series 40 or S60 devices from Nokia.
